This is a series that totally passed me by when it was originally published. I discovered it in a sale of Vertigo comics on Comixology some years ago, and was rather blown away.
I can't say much about the story with-out giving away the whole premise. It's a very left-field take on the whole Harry Potter phenomena, and keeps going deeper and deeper.
It's also about being fated to be a certain way by forces outside your control, and not liking it.
And it has evil and heroism in there, too, and responsibilities both met and shirked. There's even love.
It's terrifically imagined, both in words and drawings, and the covers are uniformly lovely.
Definitely worth a read, all twelve volumes of it. Also on sale 'till the 6th of September, 2021 (tomorrow), for a good bit less than I paid for them.
